How are you making your resolutions your reality
January is over. Did you start the New Year with a resolution or two? If you are like many people, the spur to begin an exercise program/diet/lifestyle change is with a particular goal in mind.  You think that you “just need to do this diet before that vacation, or come and work out at the gym so that you can lose those last few inches before the summer time/the reunion/the wedding...

Happy Birthday Katy!!! Missed the first part of the garage gym workout today, meeting with the boss and all… but I did manage to arrive in time for the TRX single leg squats (10 for each leg please) followed up by figure 8’s for 20reps….. 5 times through… Can you say my legs are tired?

Was anyone else out as surprised by the snow as I was? It’s been an awesome week thus far, so many positive changes happening… Today I had the added benefit of being able to get a KB practice in… While Betty was swingin’ the Indian Clubs…. Steve and I warmed up with 10 minutes of TGUs (16kg for me) and we got down to pressing… 2/3/5/10 ladders alternating with...

Awesome article from Core Performance on weight...
check this article out… are you making any of these weight loss mistakes? http://www.coreperformance.com/daily/nutrition/9-weight-loss-mistakes.html 9 Weight Loss Mistakes Amanda Carlson November 19, 2009 It’s easy to get wrapped up in myths about losing weight (cookie diet, anyone?), but it can be challenging to change habits even when you know they’re sabotaging your...

Busy.. busy.. busy… and its only Tuesday!! Still finding time for a midday workout though… Today’s garage gym practice was all about the swing and the get up. RDLS with all kinds of varying weights (12kg to the 32kg), a (painfully & arm numbing) slow and focused TGU with some 2H swings that redefined my heavy.

Waiting for the Turkey breast to finish cooking
I was supposed to work at the hospital today but got cancelled. Mixed blessing - miss those darned nurses, buit got sooo much done - including a workout in the garage gym.. (so much for an off day) Alli cat was there taking a study break to join Trainer Steve and I to play on the TRX and to (heavy) swing some kettlebells. Just a couple heavy TGU (20 kg) and a nice, simple c&p ladder...

Read this...share this..live this...
littleteaspoon: If there is anything I have learned from life, it’s that you have to prove to the world that this life is worth living and that this is your life to live. People will tell you every day, in one way or another, that you can’t do the things you dream, you can’t reach the goals you have, and that you’re not good enough to be the person you desire to be. And in that moment; you have...

Ask yourself...what is my motivation?
WE all get excited.. gung ho with the new year.. resolution after resolution.. but have you asked yourself….. What Motivates You? David Schipper June 30, 2009 What are you training for? Why are you trying to eat better? If you’re only motivated by superficial goals, it may be harder to maintain healthy habits and perform great for life. Because it turns out, much of what’s most...

Busy week, but productive
TGIF… I hope that everyone enjoyed the week…. For me it was busy, busy but very enjoyable… I happened to glance out the window a little while ago (around 5pm) and I noticed that it was still just a little bit light out… see how that one extra minute each day of daylight can add up? Today’s practice in the garage gym was about heavier swings and then Turkish Get Ups...

When you put your mind to it
I had an excellent morning this morning.. The reason I had this excellent morning was that I was determined to have an excellent morning. I hadn’t slept well last night, stuff on the brain.. so I awoke with some fogginess and full of some negative talk in my mind (aren’t we all guilty of that?). 8am rolled around and my ball of fire blond came in and got me all fired up. She made me...

My time to practice
Practice… practice … practice … After spending the morning working with clients, showing them a bit of this and a bit of that, I look forward to my time. The time when I get out of the uniform and just put on my workout clothes and get into that place where my focus can be on me. The noon thirty workouts at the garage gym where I get to pick up the KB and practice what needs to...

Living a life you love
How do you live a life that you love? I am wearing a new ring that I bought yesterday with the inscription “love the life you live”. It’s nothing fancy, it wasn’t expensive, and its message just goes with the mentality that I have adopted for myself. It reminds me that nothing in this world can last forever, and that time slips away quickly - so you better enjoy what it...

Things to think about when starting a new program
Mike Boyle has a great way of saying things in manner that is straightforward and concise… 5 Keys to Adopting a New Training Program It sounds corny, but the process of beginning an exercise program is a lot like farming or planting a lawn. There are no immediate results, and the only way to succeed is to believe in your system and put in hard work. Keep this analogy and the tips that...

Perfect for me
Can I tell you how nicely my morning started? My significant other rolled out of bed this morning when MY alarm went off - he trudged downstairs and made me oatmeal for breakfast and then peeled an orange for me to snack on for later. I ask you, is he perfect or what? My morning was good, I actually managed to get home with some time to change and stretch before our midday KB practice… all...

KB practice on a Monday
Ah Monday already… The weekend goes by so quickly… where does all of the time go? Spent my Sunday quietly, catching up with the man - making chili and chicken soup for the week - resting my body after Saturday afternoon’s workout. Today dawned gray & windy but the sun eventually took over the skies and I must say that the temps aren’t too bad for CT in January....

Then I head home and its all out at the garage gym for a mid afternoon workout with Trainer Steve… Sure there were some cleans and presses.. and then some TRX body weight rows… but the workout today was all about the swing…. 2handed, 1 handed, hand to hand.. Another kettlebell lover is born...
It is the end of the week already, can you believe it? January is already half over… Time has a way of just marching along… get, I find it rewarding to work with clients and have the opportunity to show them something they may not have tried yet. I find it especially rewarding when that something is the kettlebell. Over the last week and a half it was my pleasure to work with a...

I love it when I am still pumped up - hours after...
I got a great night’s sleep and awoke this morning feeling pretty refreshed… seems that I may have dodged the head cold bullet after all… wonder if it was the extra naps, the cold eeze or the oranges I have been eating…… Since I was feeling so inspired, decided that it was time to get back to my practice - and I am still feeling pumped from this afternoon.....

Still feeling a bit under the weather today.. Went to get up this morning and I would have sworn that I had been hit by a mack truck… It was a busy morning at the gym, but once it wrapped up I headed home for lunch and a “consultation” with my trainer. We discussed in some more detail the game plan for me that I will use to prep for the RKC in October. . I have been...

Weekend Practice
Missed working out with the gang yesterday, was working in the club. (I heard that Alli swung the 14kg… put up the 10kg for presses - I will see it next time) By the time that I got in, I was beat - but I headed out into the garage gym to play on the TRX for a while with some 2H 14kg swings mixed in.. Had to work again today, again pretty tired when I got home.  I showered, had dinner,...

Jan 10th
Today is the birthday of one of the most influential people of my life, my godfather Mario. He was taken from us too soon, and still I can feel the sting of the loss. My godfather Mario always loved me, even when he was shaking his head in disbelief at my notions or actions. He is the one man on this earth who never let me down. I love him very much & I miss him terribly but I was truly...

I must admit that when I awoke today, I wasn’t sure that I would be feeling all that up to a kettlebell practice. Yesterday in the gym garage were TGUs and presses and swings and jump ropes… I wasn’t sure that my body was going to be able to muster anything at all today… Flash forward to 1230pm .. I arrive at the gym garage in time to change and grab a cup of...
